Molly Abraham, Detroit News Restaurant Critic: The spacious dining room with old-gold painted walls and paintings on silk depicting Indian royalty in the burgundy, gold and black color scheme used throughout the restaurant, make it obvious that proprietor Raveen Reddy, who is from southern India, wants to make a mark. The four-page menu is as extensive as any in town and includes a list of Indian-style Chinese dishes as well as both southern and northern specialties including tandoori dishes as well as those from Mumbai, Delhi, Chenni, Mugali and Hyderabad. Like virtually every Indian restaurant, Ashoka has a lunchtime buffet. Vegetarians are very well taken care of, with dozens of choices. The dinner menu is a la carte, but may be ordered thali-style for an additional small charge, bringing vegetable curry, dal, sambar, raita, rice, naan and rice pudding along with the chosen entree. Ashoka has a satellite in Canton, on the corner of Haggerty and Ford Roads.
