Molly Abraham, Detroit News Restaurant Critic: Proprietor Patrick Keeley couldn't find a little breakfast/lunch spot in his neighborhood when he moved from Ferndale to St. Clair Shores, so he decided to open one himself. The food is made from organic ingredients whenever possible, and that includes the vegetables, cheeses, coffee, eggs, crabmeat and chicken on the menu of omelets, pancakes, sandwiches and salads. Although it is not a vegetarian restaurant, it is vegetarian-friendly, offering tofu and veggie burgers in addition to its sirloin burger. The setting, done up in bright blue and red, is casual and pleasant.

The Wake Up is the kind of basic little café that would be right at home in Ferndale or near the campus in any college town. (Full review)
