Molly Abraham, Detroit News Restaurant Critic: Gar Yung and his family have served Japanese and Chinese fare for several years at their original Shogun Japanese Steak House in Sterling Heights, but now they have a more glamorous setting at their newly opened spot that includes cocktails as well as hibachi style cooking on teppan tables and sushi.

Shogun Chinese & Japanese Bistro
I went there for lunch, although the wait for the food to be prepared was a little long, the food was great. The portions were big, and really filling. I think that it is a great place. Next time I go I'll have to try the chinese side, the Japanese side was great.
The first time my wife and I got a carryout the portions were great. The second time was a disaster! The Wonton soup(large size)only had 3 wontons(was supposed to have 8) and the beef chop suey had hardly any meat at all.We will never go to this place again because when I called the place up to let them know how disappointed we were, they said they would mail us a 15% coupon for the next time we went there.Never received the coupon.I don't understand how places like this think they are making money by cheating people.Maybe they will wake up when they go out of business because people aren't as stupid as they might think!
I have visited Japanese Steak houses before. But, I have never been so rushed through the process of eating, ever. The waitress did not even know what was in my wife's drink. The food was prepared so fast, it actually had a slight taste of being burnt. My lobster was just like a super ball. I even asked the Chef how hot the grill was. He said he did not know. Do not waste your time. Go to another restaurant.

As people enter Shogun, the elaborate new Asian restaurant, the hostess asks: "Japanese or Chinese?" The options, in fact, are more extensive than simply choosing a country.
