CHEESESTEAK BOOK AUTHOR VISITS JOEY'S FAMOUS PHILLY AUG. 30
DETROIT, MI - Detroit-area residents will get a hefty helping of Philadelphia culture Sun., August 30, when Joey's Famous Philly restaurants hosts a visit by The Great Philly Cheesesteak Book author Carolyn Wyman.
Wyman will be signing books and coaching locals wit'out prior knowledge on how to order and eat Philly's favorite sandwich from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Joey's will be celebrating their inclusion in Wyman's new book with
cheesesteak specials, including $5 off any cheesesteak with a book purchase.
Media coverage is invited.
Joey's Famous Philly is a two-shop empire of Eagles fan food favorites, including rib-eye steaks, hoagies and crab fries (i.e. French fries seasoned with Old Bay) owned and run by Joey Abbulone and his wife Sherri, who grew up only a few blocks from the cheesesteak's birthplace in South
Philadelphia. Their 14625 Northline Rd., Southgate, shop (where Wyman will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) and 16125 West Rd., Woodhaven, location(where Wyman will be from 2 to 4 p.m.) are the only Michigan cheesesteak
makers featured in the newly published The Great Philly Cheesesteak Book(Running Press, $15.95).
Wyman says Joey's earned its spot due to positive reviews from current and former Philadelphians, as well as the authenticity of menu offerings like Tastykake snack cakes, Herr's potato chips, birch beer and cherry whisniak sodas . "In addition to serving great cheesesteaks,
the Abbulones display real Philly 'tude in the way they make people pay extra for an inauthentic topping like Italian dressing," says Wyman.
The Great Philly Cheesesteak Book is the first and only guidebook to Philly's favorite food, including the cheesesteak's history, artistic and event tributes, recipes and profiles of 125 of the most beloved local and national
steak stands. The book is available at chain and independent
brick-and-mortar and online retailers nationwide as well as at featured shops like Joey's.
