Molly Abraham, Detroit News Restaurant Critic: The new scheme of things at the former Five Lakes Grill is upbeat and festive, with colorful murals on the dining room walls and equally colorful Mexican fare from the kitchen. The change of direction for chef/proprietor Brian Polcyn, who is of Mexican/Polish descent) is seamless. The fare, from guacamole and nachos to tacos and enchiladas, is fresh and well-prepared by a Schoolcraft trained staff.

Cinco Lagos
4-11 p.m. Fri.-Sat.
Mexican style food finally makes it's way to Milford and it is the blandest of bland. Stinko Lagos.
While I am a fan of Chef Polcyn, and Five Lakes Grill was indeed one of my favorite restaurants, I do appreciate flavorful, authentic Mexican cuisine and so was looking forward to Polcyn's interpretation of such. However, my 1st visit to Cinco Lagos did nothing but disappoint! Granted, they had only been open for approximately two weeks, but the waitress assured my dining companions that they do not make the specialty Mexican cocktail she ordered, when it was in fact listed on their drink menu(hence, my friend did end up receiving her cocktail). When I asked for a small substitution to be made to my entree(an exchange of one taco in place of one enchilada--and I did offer to pay the higher price of the enchilada in exchange for the taco), the waitress refused to allow it, saying she checked with the manager and they were unwilling to accomodate me. The food was bland in flavor, poorly seasoned, and extremely skimpy in portion-size (the enchilada was the smallest I've ever seen on either side of the border! And the "rice and beans" accompanying my entree surely consisted of less than 1/4 cup of rice and approximately 1/3 cup of black beans, at most). I do not have a big appetite and for the $13 I was charged for this entree, I would have expected to leave with a sense of satiety. However, that was not the case. The margarita was likely the best I've ever had, but it's doubtful this will be enough to make me return to Cinco Lagos anytime soon. Between the unknowledgeable waitstaff, poor service, higher-than-average prices for small quantities of tasteless food, I'm sad to say that I cannot imagine Chef Polcyn's new restaurant will succeed.

Cinco Lagos has replaced Five Lakes Grill on Milford's Main Street, but anyone with even a smattering of Spanish will note that the name, if not the menu, is actually the same.
