Wasabi Korean and Japanese Cuisine
I've been to Wasabi quite a few times, and it seems that every time I've gone there I see a completely new set of servers. The first time I went, my server shorted me on my change, the second time my food was cold... the third time I had a very, very, good blond waitress that I regrettably can't remember the name of. The last time I went it was probably the worst service at a restaurant I've ever had in my life. Her name was Moon-Ju I /think/. It's hard to remember exactly.
At any rate, after bringing us drinks, she informed us that the soda machine was out, but they were changing it and would be right back with my coke. (Never came back with it) She took our order, and then 10 minutes later brought miso soup to one guest at our table. When I have 20 dollars worth of sushi, you'd think I'd at least get a cucumber salad, but apparently not.
After bringing us our food that was the last time I saw Moon-Ju for a half hour. Never refilled a drink, never asked if everything was even edible, never brought me anything to eat with... Never cleared a single plate. Upon her return from the quite slow restaurant, she asked if we wanted seperate checks and delivered them, and then 15 minutes after that, she finally returned to pick up said checks... and then another 5 minutes to run 3 credit cards and come back.
I've worked as a waiter my entire life, and all you have to do is clear my plate, smile, and say thank you and I'll give you at least 20 percent. I've never left below 15 percent, except that day.
I would love to go back to Wasabi, they have great food, but 9 times out of 10 I have to shake a cup of ice at one of their servers for them to ask me if I perhaps wanted a refill.
See you tomorrow at 7 for Sweetest Day! We luv your restaurant...! Thanks for spending time to talk with us on our previous visits! Great Fusion/Korean Flair! Glad you brought a lot of Ann Arbor to Detroit. Ciao, Brian & Marie.
wasabi is small but has a very nice atmosphere. I love sushi and have been to several places in the area. Wasabi definitely beats out Oslo and is on par with Ronin. Both the Yum Yum roll and the Michigan Roll are excellent. Also some of the best miso soup around. I've also went there with my parents, both of whom are not sushi fans- they tried some of the japanese entrees and really enjoyed them, my mom got a beef dish..i cant recall the name, but it was awesome.
I would defintely give this place a shot. Its also right next to all the detroit museums, so its a great place for lunch if your checking out the DIA.
Dear. Shogun

i am sorry. you felt that our foods are overpriced...we try to provide more...but that happened...
in any way, our motto is to satisfy our customers. please visits us again and enjoy our service meal...
please see and experience what we can do for you...
sincerely, i am very sorry...
This restaurant is tiny, but has quite the nice atmosphere. The staff also seems very friendly. However, they come up short with the very tiny portions. For example, the bulkogi meal should have had double the portion. The taste was ok, but I would rather dine elsewhere than burn money here.
I was very excited when I heard there would be another place to get sushi in downtown Detroit. I am a regular customer of Fishbone's in Greektown (I love their specialty sushi rolls). Sometimes I visit Oslo, but it's often empty and I find it to be over priced. I also like Sala Thai for carry out.
Wasabi's sushi is fresh, quick and cheap! The combo I ordered cost less than $9 and included three rolls (six pieces each), miso soup and a cucumber salad. My friend got a sushi combo that was about $12 and that came with a California roll, soup, salad, shrimp dumplings, three pieces of nigiri AND fresh fruit.
I don't think Wasabi serves alcohol (yet?), which is a deal breaker for me at dinner time, but this will probably become my favorite new lunchtime spot. I had heard from others that the service can be slow, but I went on a Thursday around 1 p.m. and I was in and out in less than an hour.
TIP: The address says 15 E. Kirby, but there is an entrance right on Woodward at the corner of Kirby.
