The Art Deco neighbor of the Detroit Institute of Arts -- the circa-1926 building where Diego Rivera resided while working on his famous murals -- is a reminder of old Detroit. (Full review)

excellent sushi & atmosphere

wasabi is small but has a very nice atmosphere. I love sushi and have been to several places in the area. Wasabi definitely beats out Oslo and is on par with Ronin. Both the Yum Yum roll and the Michigan Roll are excellent. Also some of the best miso soup around. I've also went there with my parents, both of whom are not sushi fans- they tried some of the japanese entrees and really enjoyed them, my mom got a beef dish..i cant recall the name, but it was awesome.
I would defintely give this place a shot. Its also right next to all the detroit museums, so its a great place for lunch if your checking out the DIA.

Overpriced.

This restaurant is tiny, but has quite the nice atmosphere. The staff also seems very friendly. However, they come up short with the very tiny portions. For example, the bulkogi meal should have had double the portion. The taste was ok, but I would rather dine elsewhere than burn money here.

Another great place for sushi downtown!

I was very excited when I heard there would be another place to get sushi in downtown Detroit. I am a regular customer of Fishbone's in Greektown (I love their specialty sushi rolls). Sometimes I visit Oslo, but it's often empty and I find it to be over priced. I also like Sala Thai for carry out.

Wasabi's sushi is fresh, quick and cheap! The combo I ordered cost less than $9 and included three rolls (six pieces each), miso soup and a cucumber salad. My friend got a sushi combo that was about $12 and that came with a California roll, soup, salad, shrimp dumplings, three pieces of nigiri AND fresh fruit.

I don't think Wasabi serves alcohol (yet?), which is a deal breaker for me at dinner time, but this will probably become my favorite new lunchtime spot. I had heard from others that the service can be slow, but I went on a Thursday around 1 p.m. and I was in and out in less than an hour.

TIP: The address says 15 E. Kirby, but there is an entrance right on Woodward at the corner of Kirby.
